Justin Bieber Looks Very Excited Playing Pickup Soccer at UCLA

Justin Bieber Shirtless and Super Excited Playing Pickup Soccer

Justin Bieber laced up his cleats, popped off his shirt, and got really pumped up while playing soccer with his bros … judging by the look of his shorts.

The Biebs hit up UCLA’s campus Tuesday afternoon for a pickup game on one of the soccer fields, and at one point was standing at full attention calling out a play.

We’re told several college students gathered around the field to watch JB in action and get a peek at his new torso tattoo … and he put on quite a show.

It’s unclear if the bulge in his shorts was the result of scoring a goal or if it was just the afternoon shadows on the pitch playing tricks … but the important part is Justin looked like he had fun.

Janet Jackson Music Vid Shoot Wrecks Guys Home … According to Suit

EXCLUSIVE

Janet Jackson‘s music video shoot for “No Sleeep” damaged a guy’s home so badly he couldn’t live there for 2 weeks, and he wants a big paycheck to make it right … according to a new suit.

David Tate claims a music vid production company, Zanmi Films, used his house in July 2015 to film Jackson’s vid, and agreed to cover any damages they might cause. After shooting the vid, Tate claims he noticed extensive damage to his floors and walls caused by the production crew.

According to the docs … he had to fork over the money for repairs and also move out of his crib for 14 days, but hasn’t been compensated for his troubles.

Tate’s asking for over a million dollars in damages.

We reached out to Zanmi … so far, no word back.

Architect Reda Amalou Presents Easy Haute Design

Architect Reda Amalou Presents Easy Haute Design

Despite our most impassioned protests, we love change. The weather dictates most of this for us—in skin care, fashion, and even time off—though style updates are hardly a burden. Designer Reda Amalou craved this same transition with furniture, as he is fond of the textural highs to be found when surrounded by linen in the summer and wool flannel or velvet during the winter. His design response is the Season armchair, a deep-set leather piece featuring four removable cushions that are meant to be swapped and adapted at will.

Paris-based Amalou is an architect who seems to slide easily past the discpline’s serious formalities and rigor when creating furniture and objects for his namesake collection. “My approach is more personal, based on cultures that I have experienced,” he says. “There is also a different physical dimension—the direct contact between the object and the user. This is essential to my design approach.”

Even with a heightened sense of the tactile and personal, not much will stand in the way of his material choices. His go-tos range from silvered bronze, eggshell, gold leaf, and American walnut. “For my latest collection, I tried to draw collections where line and material are one—a refined line and a material that respond to one another. As for my influences, Asia certainly, but also the modernism of the 1950s and a certain form of ‘je-m’en-foutisme stylistique. I’ve had enough of stylistic fuss!”

Recent releases suggest he is also extraordinarily comfortable with a curve. The Dots series presents a slick interpretation of the traditional Asian stool, keeping the focus entirely on the material. Each intro features a minimum of 18 coats of hand-applied lacquer. Meant as a side table or stool, each one wears a high-gloss finish that better emphasizes the designer’s unconventional palette in peacock blue, warm saffron, and deep garnet—colors that are convivial, loose, and very French.

Amalou has a strong history of collaborating with top design houses like Veronese, Baguès Paris, Roche Bobois, and Baccarat, which has no doubt informed his sense of luxury. Balancing the minimal and sobering his characteristic swing, Amalou’s works are the free, informal 21st-century version of haute design. The Ladybug side table, an early edition, pairs hammered bronze, “a noble material,” with a lacquered fabric top—an effect that says, “I woke up like this.”

‘I, Tonya’ Actress Took Home Gold to Play Kid Tonya Harding

‘I, Tonya’ Actress Took Home Gold to Play Kid Tonya Harding

‘I, Tonya’ Star Ices Kid Harding Role … Gets Cool Paycheck & Perks

EXCLUSIVE

Long before Tonya Harding got Nancy Kerrigan‘s knee capped — she was an innocent little girl, and the kid actress who played her in “I, Tonya” made bank for the role.

Mckenna Grace plays young Tonya in the upcoming flick starring Margot Robbie — which looks awesome, btw — and was guaranteed at least $10k for her role. Mckenna’s contract was filed in court due to her being 11 years old and all.

Don’t the let the age fool ya … Mckenna’s no Hollywood rookie, having landed big roles in “Gifted” and “Amityville: The Awakening” — plus TV roles on “Fuller House” and “Designated Survivor.”

The best clause in her contract though — Mckenna got to fly business class round-trip, and stay in a hotel suite for any filming out of L.A.

If real-life Tonya had it this good, maybe she wouldn’t have … y’know.

Starbucks Wants to Make You Food That’s Worth Eating

Starbucks Wants to Make You Food That’s Worth Eating

A decade ago, Starbucks had an identity crisis. Chairman Howard Schultz was running around the world touting how the chain coffee shop prized craftsmanship and built community. But in truth, Starbucks had become mostly a better version of the commodity coffee it had persuaded many Americans to stop drinking. Faced with competition from McDonald’s and Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks found it increasingly difficult to compete in the world of mass-market cafes.

So the Seattle-based coffee giant began retooling, with Schultz retaking his CEO position (his failed ownership of the Seattle Sonics was no longer taking up his time after he sold the beloved NBA team to Oklahoma City investors). Part of the reimagining was chasing the third-wave coffee roasters like Stumptown, Intelligentsia, and Blue Bottle which had passed them. They wanted to recapture some of the premium coffee market. The company started offering single-origin beans and in 2014, they opened the Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle, to be its shrine to coffee.

But when it came to reclaiming its coffee cred, Starbucks actually had cred to reclaim. Its food on the other hand, well, has never been too great. From unremarkable egg sandwiches reheated in weird little ovens to mostly generic pastries staring back at you from a glass case, the food was more for sustenance than enjoyment. At the Reserve Roastery, those sad items can feel a little out of place with the premium coffees on offer.

Enter Rocco Princi, an Italian baker from Milan whose eponymous café has six locations across Europe. He will partner with Starbucks to bring his fresh bread, cornetti, focaccia sandwiches filled with salame Milano and mozzarella di bufala, and more to the Reserve Roastery. It also means that the food won’t just be reheated in little ovens, it will be the first time Starbucks will cook food on site at one of its cafes.

The Seattle partnership won’t be a one-off for Starbucks and Princi. The Italian bakery will be the exclusive food offering at all the new Roastery cafes opening around the globe from Shanghai to Milan to Chicago.

This Young Watch Brand Is Bringing Back Watchmaking Tradition in a Big Way

This Young Watch Brand Is Bringing Back Watchmaking Tradition in a Big Way

Though numerous upstart watch brands have come and gone over the last few decades, few have as interesting an origin story as Akrivia Genève. In 2012, Rexhep Rexhepi, then only 25 years of age, had already made significant headway refining his craft. Having apprenticed and worked for Patek Philippe from age 14, he followed that with a stint at the now-defunct complicated movement manufacture BNB Concept and further work for F.P. Journe.

The year 2012 was when the passionate young watchmaker decided to strike out on his own, and before long, his first release—the AK-01—was unveiled. Even given his background in high watchmaking, Rexhepi set the bar particularly high for himself, building a tourbillon monopusher chronograph with a 100-hour power reserve and exquisite hand-finishing throughout.

Fast-forward to 2017, and growth for the brand has been steady. Year one saw the production of only two timepieces, whereas 2017 is expected to see 25 pieces completed and delivered. The entire Akrivia team is now five strong, including Rexhepi’s brother Xhevdet, who completed his apprenticeship (also with Patek Philippe) in 2014. During a brief visit to Geneva last month, we visited the firm’s brand-new workshop, which they were still in the process of settling into.

In a time when watchmaking production has much devolved into a compartmentalized operation, Rexhepi is still a believer in traditional practices. “Though we must still rely on some trusted suppliers for certain components, we are finishing every part we can here in our workshop by hand. We also don’t have a person for finishing, a person for assembly, and so on. Each watch is completed start to finish by a single watchmaker,” states Rexhepi.

It’s become clear that Akrivia’s clients are attuned to this level of detail and finishing. Most often, clients are ordering watches cased in either steel or titanium rather than precious metals. Due to the hands-on nature of the brand’s work, the team is able to offer a certain level of customization to its timepieces, upon request, in the form of a unique dial and hand colors and finishes. As with many brands, Rexhepi has seen an increasing demand in this category and seems unfazed by the additional work. “The process of ordering one of our watches is already so personal that if a client wants something a little different, we’re happy to accommodate when possible.”
